What You Need To Know About Squarespace Campaigns
Squarespace realized how important email marketing is for businesses, bloggers, and basically anyone trying to grow an audience online so they’ve come out with “Squarespace Email Campaigns”!
If you haven’t started growing your email list yet then this might just be the push you were waiting for. So in today’s blog, I’m going to talk about what this new feature is all about and if it’s the best fit for you and your biz.
First of all, let’s talk about the difference between campaigns and automations.
Campaigns: A one time email that goes out to a list for ex: Weekly Newsletter that goes out on a specific day at a specific time
Automation: A sequence of emails that go out when someone signs up to be part of your newsletter regardless of the day or time they sign up. Ex: Welcome email series automation.
The new Squarespace feature offers only campaigns and NOT automations so this is something to keep in mind.
I'm sure Squarespace will be adding automations sometime in the future but for now, the “Early Access” campaigns don’t allow for automations so for that reason I would only recommend Squarespace Campaigns for those looking to get their feet wet in the world of email marketing.
Just wanted to make sure I covered that before you start learning about Squarespace Campaigns and then realized it wasn’t for you.
New here? I wrote these blog posts to help you out in your biz:
You have to have an active Squarespace account in order to access this feature but they’ve only just started releasing it to some accounts. This means that if you haven’t been granted access yet then you will in the next couple of weeks.
How many emails can I send and is it free?
According to Squarespace:
During the Early Access period, all Email Campaigns features are free, and you can send up to 50,000 campaigns per month. (For example, if your mailing list has 1,000 subscribers, you could send each of them 50 campaigns.) When Early Access ends, everything you've done will be saved, and you can continue creating drafts and mailing lists, but you'll need to purchase Email Campaigns to send your campaigns.
How to access it?
Home ⇒ Marketing ⇒ Email Campaigns
Like with everything else Squarespace does this new feature is super user-friendly, customizable, and has a beautiful/clean design.
The first thing you will have to do is pick a layout aka template. There are a lot of layouts to choose from + you can customize the style (color, font type, font size, padding, etc…) !
You can really make a layout your own so don’t pick a layout based on the topic that the layout is about.
Once you’ve made your email on brand and added your content you will now want to add a click your sender profile meaning this will be the email address your campaign will be sent from.
Don’t forget to verify your email address + domain so that your emails don't get sent to spam.
Your Email List
To start building your list you can:
Add a subscription block to your site
If you have an email list started you can import it via CSV
Once you send your first email campaign you can review the analytics for it like delivered, opened, clicked, and unsubscribed.
That’s pretty much it! The super simple way of getting started with email marketing. Again, I would still recommend MailChimp over Squarespace campaigns if you are looking for more features like automations.
